Screening and Assessment

At Mi Casa es su Casa we use the Ages & Stages Questionnaire to observe the progress of the children’s development. The Ages & Stages screening helps our teachers to look at how the children are doing in important areas, such as speech, physical ability, social skills, and problem-solving skills.

ASQ will help teachers identify children’s strengths as well as any areas where each child may need support. The Ages & Stages will need to be completed at enrollment, then twice per year at home and at our program, so we can compare the results. We will provide additional information about the ASQ in our registration package.

The other tool we use at Mi Casa es su Casa to measure the progress of the children’s development is the Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment. The TSG will help our teacher observe specific areas of knowledge, skills, and behaviors that the children must have according to his/her age.

This tool has a total of 38 objectives. Two objectives are related specifically to English language acquisition, and the other 36 objectives are organized into nine areas of development and content-area learning. The areas are: Social–emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, mathematics, Science and Technology, and Arts.

The teachers at Mi Casa es su Casa will track each child stage or progressions of development and learning throughout the year. Then, the teacher will create an individualized plan with appropriate activities to support each child’s learnings goals.

Mi Casa es su Casa has a parent’s bulletin board where we record the overall learning objective for all the children and their individualized goals.  Each child’s goals will be changed when the milestone is reached.

Mi Casa es su Casa teachers will complete four checkpoints per year one in the fall, winter, spring, and summer. The purpose of this ongoing assessment is to build a strong foundation for early learning and to plan for developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Mi Casa es su Casa will discuss the four checkpoints during our parent teacher conferences. The January conference will discuss fall and winter checkpoints and the August conference will discuss the spring and summer. At Mi Casa es su Casa we strive to support each child ‘s learning and development for success at school and life and for that reason we are looking forward to work in partnership with all our families to accomplish our goals.
